MOV Compressor — Compress MOV Files Online Without Uploading

Drop a MOV file below and get a smaller MP4 back. Everything runs in your browser, so your video never leaves your device.

How to Compress a MOV File

  1. Add your MOV file. Drag it into the box above or tap to choose it. You can add several at once.
  2. Pick a setting. Medium quality suits most videos. Need a specific size? Switch to Target size and type the MB you want.
  3. Compress and download. Keep the tab open while it works, preview the result, then save the MP4.

Compression starts as soon as you press the button. There is no upload and no waiting in a server queue.

How to Reduce MOV File Size

Most of a video’s size comes from its bitrate: how much data it stores for each second. To reduce MOV file size, lower the bitrate. That is exactly what the quality presets and Target size mode do.

  • Quality mode — High, Medium or Low. Use High when detail matters, Medium for sharing, Low when you only care about size.
  • Target size mode — type the size you need, such as 20 MB for an email, and the compressor aims for it.
  • Resolution — keep Original, or drop to 1080p, 720p or 480p. A smaller frame lets a low bitrate look sharper.

Phone recordings and screen captures usually shrink a lot. Videos that were already compressed have less room left.

Why Compress MOV Files?

MOV is Apple’s QuickTime format, used by iPhones, Macs and many cameras. A few minutes of iPhone video can take hundreds of megabytes, which is too big to email, slow to upload, and quick to fill a drive.

Compressing a QuickTime video to a smaller MP4 makes it easier to send, share and store, and MP4 plays almost everywhere.

A MOV File Compressor That Works in Your Browser

Most online video compressors upload your file to a server first. This MOV video compressor does the work on your own device instead:

  • No upload — your video stays on your computer or phone.
  • No signup, no watermark — open the page and use it.
  • Free — compressing costs nothing, with no daily limit.

It runs in current Chrome, Edge and Safari on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone. The tool checks your file before encoding and tells you if your browser can’t handle it.

Compressing Large MOV Files

Because nothing is uploaded, there is no server size cap. We have compressed a 4.97 GB MOV recording in desktop Chrome. For multi-gigabyte files, use a computer, keep it plugged in and awake, and make sure you have free disk space for the result.

See the 4GB video compressor for tips on big files.

Target File Sizes by Use Case

Where it’s goingGood starting target
Email attachment20 MB (Gmail allows 25 MB)
WhatsApp15 MB for quick sending
Another website or appA little under its upload limit

Limits change from time to time, so check the service you are sending to.

Questions & answers

How much can a MOV file be compressed?

It depends on the original. iPhone videos and screen recordings often shrink a lot because they use a high bitrate. A video that was already compressed may only get a little smaller. The tool shows the before and after size.

Will compressing reduce the quality?

Compression re-encodes the video, so there is always some change. On High it is hard to spot; on Low it is more visible. Keep your original until you have checked the result.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no upload limit because nothing is uploaded. The real limit is your device: its memory, free disk space, and whether the browser supports the video’s codec. Use a computer for very large files.

Is my video uploaded or stored?

No. The video is processed inside your browser and never sent to our servers. Temporary results stay on your device until you clear the list.

Can I compress MOV files on iPhone or Android?

Yes, in a current mobile browser. The tool checks your file first. For long or high-resolution recordings, a computer is faster and more reliable.

Can I compress several MOV files at once?

Yes. Select multiple files and they are compressed one after another. Download each result when it is ready.

Why won’t my MOV file open on Windows?

Some Windows players can’t read the codec inside a MOV file. Compressing it here gives you an H.264 MP4, which plays on almost any device.

Free for everyone. Help keep it that way.
